Known as China’s 8D magical mountain city, Chongqing is a one-of-a-kind destination built atop rolling hills, where two grand rivers meet. It blends dizzying urban landscapes, rich history, breathtaking natural wonders, and unforgettable fiery hotpot. This 5-day itinerary covers all the must-see spots, from dazzling night views to peaceful ancient streets and spectacular karst scenery, suitable for solo travelers, families, and groups alike.

Day 1: Arrival & Downtown Chongqing Highlights

Morning: Arrive in Chongqing, transfer to your hotel (we recommend staying near Jiefangbei for easy access to attractions). Settle in and take a short rest to adjust to the mountainous city.

Afternoon: Head to Jiefangbei, the bustling heart of downtown Chongqing. Wander the pedestrian street, browse shops, and soak up the vibrant city atmosphere. Visit nearby Raffles City Chongqing to admire the unique sky-scraping architecture overlooking the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers.

Evening: Explore the legendary Hongya Cave—a stunning stilt-house complex that looks like a fairy-tale fortress lit up at night. Stroll the wooden corridors, enjoy river views, and taste local street snacks. End your day with a classic Chongqing hotpot dinner.

Day 2: Ciqikou Ancient Town & Local Cultural Stroll

Morning: Visit Ciqikou Ancient Town, a well-preserved old town with over 1,000 years of history. Wander the stone-paved lanes lined with traditional wooden buildings, browse handicraft shops, and watch local artisans at work.

Afternoon: Try authentic local snacks in the old town—spicy tofu pudding, sugar figurines, and handmade pastries. Take a leisurely walk along the riverfront, and visit ancient temples and tea houses to experience slow-paced old Chongqing life.

Evening: Return to the city center. Take a ride on the Yangtze River Cableway, a famous local “air bus” with panoramic views of the rivers and skyline.

Day 3: Liziba & Mountain City Paths

Morning: Head to Liziba Railway Station, the world-famous train that runs directly through a residential building—one of Chongqing’s most iconic quirky landmarks. Take unique photos of this engineering wonder.

Afternoon: Walk the Shancheng Alley (Mountain City Trail), a historic path winding up the hills. Discover hidden old neighborhoods, stone stairs, and authentic local life away from tourist crowds. Pass by classic Chongqing alleyways and courtyard homes.

Evening: Dine at a local riverside restaurant, tasting fresh river fish and classic Sichuan-style dishes. Enjoy gentle night breezes and city views.

Day 4: Wulong Karst Day Trip (Natural Wonder)

Full Day: Take a day trip to Wulong Karst National Geology Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous filming location. Explore the Three Natural Bridges—massive stone arches formed by nature, with towering cliffs and lush green valleys.

Walk through the underground karst caves, marvel at waterfalls and unique rock formations, and enjoy fresh mountain air. This stunning natural landscape is perfect for photography and nature lovers.

Evening: Return to Chongqing city center. Relax with a light dinner after a day of outdoor exploration.

Day 5: Leisure Time & Departure

Morning: Enjoy a slow morning in the city. Choose between last-minute shopping at a local market, visiting a tea house for a relaxing tea break, or exploring a nearby cultural park.

Pick up local souvenirs like spicy chili oil, handmade snacks, and traditional crafts to bring home.

Afternoon: Pack your belongings, check out of the hotel, and head to the airport or train station. Leave with unforgettable memories of Chongqing’s unique landscapes, bold flavors, and warm hospitality.

Useful Travel Tips

  • Best Time to Visit: Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer mild weather, ideal for sightseeing and outdoor trips.

  • Transport: Chongqing has a convenient metro system; for hilly areas, ride-hailing services are highly recommended.

  • Food Note: Chongqing cuisine is very spicy—ask for “mild spicy” if you prefer less heat.

  • Comfort: Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the city has many stairs and hilly paths.

Whether you’re chasing stunning views, craving bold flavors, or exploring unique natural wonders, Chongqing will surprise and delight you at every turn.
